This gate was the only tension mounted gate that was wide enough to fit the space we needed it for. We found one other and it did not work well at all. I really like that this has a little ramp to bring visibility to where you have to step over where it meets the floor. That is a really nice safety feature. It opens and closes pretty smoothly and is solid and sturdy. We haven't had any issues and are very happy we found this gate! I highly recommend if you have a space needing a wide fit and you want a tension mount. We use this at the top of our stairs, but we have a colonial style house where we have spindle banisters and railing that begins in the hall on the second floor. This allowed us to block off the hall that leads to the stairway, which just worked better than trying to do anything with the thin spindle banisters and rails. Much sturdier solution for us! Best gates ever. One of my two dogs jumps so it needed to be tall enough. The gates are very sturdy, you can set it up to open right or left, the doors open forward and backward, if you open it 90° it stays open, if you let it shut by itself it locks in place. since you have to pull the handle sideways and then up, neither small children nor the dogs can get through. And it looks very nice. I got two of them to block off my family room. The spots for the gates are very wide, and this is the only gate that I could find to accommodate both the widths I needed. These were a little more expensive but I found them well worth the price. I recommend purchasing the baby gate wall cups to protect your walls when tightening this gate into the two sides. It was easy to install & product is pretty sturdy. My stair width was 39” but I bought the smallest one (38-1/2”) which fit perfectly with a mini wall nanny. The bar width is just narrow enough that my 9lb, 8 mo. old kitty can’t slip through. Read more

My stairway is 39.5" wide. I couldn't find many gates that would work for this size so I bought a gate for a 38.5" opening and then I bought these Wall Nanny Extender - 4 Inch Baby Gate Extensions. They are easy to use and are exactly as pictured and described. I'm going to buy more for another gate that I am using wood shims to extend the gap. Highly recommend! Read more
